stole quandry

Sunday, August 14th, 2005

I hit a tough spot last night which landed me in the middle of my floor, surrounded by yarn and hooks and pattern books and my laptop open to Crochet Pattern Central.

See, I really want to make a stole or a shawl for upcoming holiday parties, but…the yarn and patterns aren’t cooperating. What happens is that I decide on a pattern, run around to the LYS, and I can’t find any yarn that I’m happy with. Buy yarn that I love anyway and figure I can find another pattern to go with it. Get home and can’t decide on good pattern. Feel like I need to take yarn back. Don’t want to take yarn back. Look around to my 5 or 6 UFOs and cringe about increasing the stash. Keep yarn anyway and try not to feel guilty about it.

ooooh! this beautiful stole!

Let me just say how much I adore Crochetville. What a community! I am addicted to logging on there several times a day, if I can.

I just saw this lovely shawl/stole made by Mimi. I really think I want to do this one. Must remember that the pattern is from Crochet Pattern Central.

crochet instruction at the airport

Tuesday, July 26th, 2005

When I was in the airport on my way to Virignia this weekend, I had a sweet little six-year old girl come up to me while I was crocheting (the hat pattern from Cool Crochet. Pictures to come soon). She had a nice accent–perhaps Spanish or Italian.

little girl: “What is that, please?”

Me: “It’s called crochet.”

little girl: “What do you make?”

Me: “I’m making a hat (placing the first few rounds on my head to show her).”

She giggled and said she loved it! She hung around (after I got the thumbs-up from her parents across the waiting area) while I showed her how to do it, and then she helped me yarn over while I dug into the stiches. It was neat to pass this craft along. I’m continually amazed at how this hobby of mine brings people together.

a great craft store…and teaching crochet

Monday, July 11th, 2005

Well, just got back from Asheville, NC, and I visited the Earth Guild store for the first time. What an amazing store! I bought some great yarn. It is a beautiful moss and brown color (Manos del Uruguay Multi Moss, Wool, 100g, 135y). You may read about the yarn here and there’s a link to a nice picture of the yarn. Dreaming of a cozy hat…

I also taught my sister to crochet (she loved her scarf, and I gave my mom the green hat). It was fun to watch her show interest, struggle, and then come out on the other side packing her yarn and hook in her purse wherever she went!

will i ever catch up?

I’ve got, count ‘em, 5 more projects to show. Yes, I have finished these all in June: 3 scarves, another hat, and a pillow. Whew! I told ya I was nuts about this!
